Hamilton, Ontario - Edson Packaging Machinery, powered by ProMach, celebrates its 50th anniversary today. Founded in 1962, Edson is a leading manufacturer of high performance case packing equipment that grew from humble beginnings in a Hamilton, Ontario garage to machinery installations worldwide for a wide variety of consumer goods companies.

Edson was founded by namesakes Ed McCrudden and Hugh Anderson when they were commissioned to build a carton packer for a local candy manufacturer. Edson continued to refine its technology and received a Canadian patent for a semi-automatic packaging machine in 1966, followed by a U.S. patent two years later.

Today, Edson provides specialty packaging equipment, parts and service for companies worldwide that require high performance case and tray packing solutions. Edson is an industry leader in packaging solutions for the paper converting and carton industry, including machinery installations in nearly 90 percent of North America’s paper mills. Edson also has long-standing customer relationships with food, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods companies that require innovative, high-speed horizontal case packing, material handling, and top load robotic solutions.

Over the years Edson packaging equipment has earned a strong reputation for reliability and manufacturing excellence. Many of its earliest machines installed in the 1970s are still in service today. In February this year, Edson was acquired by ProMach, Inc. a leading provider of integrated packaging products and solutions for food, beverage, household goods, pharmaceutical, and other diverse consumer and industrial companies. ProMach brands provide equipment, training, installation, and parts in primary and secondary packaging, end-of-line packaging, and identification and tracking from manufacturing and sales facilities throughout North America. Edson continues to manufacture all its equipment and serve international customers from its Hamilton, Ontario location.

To mark its 50th anniversary, Edson will hold a reception today, hosted by Gary Evans, Edson’s Vice President and General Manager, former company president Trevar Gibson and Barry Heiser, President of ProMach’s End-of-Line business.

“We’re honored to be celebrating our 50th anniversary,” said Mr. Evans. “We have been fortunate to have many outstanding customers who have trusted us to help them achieve their manufacturing goals. We have also been fortunate to have many talented employees who have helped us continue to grow our business over the years.”
