Matrix Features at West Pack 2015 the New Apollo

Feb 03, 2015

Matrix Packaging Machinery, powered by ProMach, will showcase at WestPack, February 10-12 at Anaheim Convention Center, the new Apollo intermittent motion form-fill-seal machine, capable of speeds up to 150 bags per minute at widths ranging from 2 to 11 inches wide (50 to 280 mm). (Matrix Booth # 5221)

Matrix will also display the rugged pre-made pouch liquid filling/sealing machine from Toyo Jidoki, the TT-8D-R, and the compact, modular, and robust Inever BY300 multilane stickpack machine.

Apollo

The Apollo is based on the company’s next generation servo motion control platform. The machines in this new family feature a small footprint to conserve floor space, high speed for greater throughput, Beckhoff PC architecture for advanced servo motion control, and PackML compatibility for fast start up and ease of operation.

In the design of the new platform, Matrix engineers compared a number of control hardware and software solutions. A Beckhoff PC based solution out-performed the others in terms of high speed and precise motion control. This PC-based control system ensures off-the-shelf availability of PC hardware and ever increasing processing power as the PC industry progresses. The system features the open EtherCAT communication network for effective communications with other machines and business systems.

The control architecture is PackML compliant, which speeds up system integration and operator training as well as facilitating consistency in operation across PackML compliant machines. A 15-inch (381 mm) operator interface offers capabilities similar to a tablet computer, allowing operators through touch and swipe actions to call up the screen most helpful to them and to have several screens open at one time. The HMI’s capabilities are designed to aid operators in maintaining high equipment effectiveness and quality packaging.

Vacuum pull belts improve performance. This upgraded handling of a variety of films presents marketers with greater packaging options and is a hallmark of the new platform. Tool-less changeover simplifies operation and helps increase uptime. The machine’s open design facilitates fast cleaning.

Toyo Jidoki TT-8D-R

The Toyo Jidoki TT-8D-R liquid fill-and-seal pre-made pouch machine is designed for stand-up, press-to-close, flat, flat bottom, and side gusset style bags with spout closures. This machine incorporates Toyo Jidoki’s proven technology with flexibility for shaped pouches to meet changing presentations in the marketplace. The pre-made pouch filler sealer is rated from 15 up to 40 pouches per minute, depending on the product, and has the capacity to load up to 600 pouches contingent on pouch type and size. Pouch size ranges from 4.7 - 10.2 inches (120 - 260 mm) wide to 5.1 - 15.7 inches (130 - 400 mm) long. The machine is easy to clean and wash.

Options include:

  • Date printer
  • Air squeeze device
  • Stand-up pouch bottom opening device
  • Nitrogen gas flush
  • Seal area cleaning
  • The model TT-8C-R for wider pouches

Inever BY300

The Inever BY300 output ranges from 150 stickpacks per minute for a three-lane operation to 350 per minute with seven lanes. Widths range from 1.8 inches (45 mm) for three-lane operation to 0.67 inches (17 mm) for seven lanes. Lengths range from 1.18 inches (30 mm) to 8 inches (200 mm).

The BY300 features PLC control, brushless servo motors, and a touch screen HMI. The machine’s rugged ergonomic design allows easy cleaning and requires low maintenance. Available options include:

  • Laser, ink jet, hot foil printing
  • Laser scoring for straight-tear-line easy-open packs
  • Thermo printers
  • Embossed coding for variable data
  • Dust aspiration for powders
  • Collating/counting conveyors for cartoning
  • Integrated top load or end load cartoning
  • Mechanical cam drive
  • Patented “built-in” laser device for easy opening pre-cut
